Services

All of our clinical psychologists and social workers are licensed with the state of Florida. We all have extensive experience working with patients diagnosed with various mental health issues including chronic mental illness, depression, anxiety, adjustment issues, substance abuse/dependency and geriatrics. Services provided include individual, group and family therapies, psychological testing and evaluation.

Our forensic psychologists have a wealth of knowledge, training and experience in clinical as well as specific forensic areas such as psychological/forensic assessment and evaluation, diagnostics, treatment, assessment for malingering, competency evaluation for both civil and legal competence, competency restoration training and expert court testimony.

Jo-Anne Bliss Psy.D.

Dr. Jo-Anne Bliss has been a resident of South Florida since 1973.  She is a graduate of Nova Southeastern University with a master’s degree in counseling psychology and a doctorate in clinical psychology. She holds a license in clinical psychology with the state of Florida and is recognized by the state as a qualified supervisor, having clinically supervised numerous masters and doctoral level trainees over the years.  She has experience working with such governmental agencies such as Medicare, Medicaid, Department of Children and Families and Department of Juvenile Justice. Dr. Bliss has almost 30 years of experience working with both geriatric patients and individuals with long-term mental health needs. She has years of experience working with adults and adolescents involved in the criminal justice system, and many years working in substance abuse treatment. Dr. Bliss has developed treatment programs for behavioral health and substance treatment facilities and has served as clinical director for various facilities for over 20 years. She is a Diplomate of Clinical Forensic Counseling and a Board – Certified Founding Fellow of the American College of Advance Practice Psychologists.  Dr. Bliss is a certified cognitive behavioral therapist and is a member in good standing of the American Psychological Association, Mental Health Association of Broward and the Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association.

Beth Leitner, Psy.D.

 Dr. Beth Leitner graduated from Nova Southeastern University in 2002  with a Doctorate of Psychology.  Since then, she has worked in both  inpatient and outpatient settings, working individually and in groups,  with adults having a variety of mental health  issues.  She began at the Center for Clinical and Forensic Psychology  in 2010.

Sharon Stillson, LCSW

 Sharon Stillson is a licensed clinical social worker, specializing in  treating homebound patients in their homes.  Sharon helps patients maximize  feelings of well being while rediscovering personal strengths.  Patients  are assisted in adjusting to lifestyle changes including:  grief,  loneliness and loss of health.

Ann Garfield, LCSW

 Annie Schlachet Garfield, L.C.S.W., a  Licensed Clinical Social Worker, has worked as a Psychotherapist for  over 30 years. She holds a Master’s degree in clinical social work from  Adelphi University, New York. Annie is a dynamic and insightful  psychotherapist. She specializes in the enhancement of relationships and  works with traditional couples, non-traditional couples, individual  family members, or any combination of people. Annie enjoys assisting  persons in clarifying their values and improving communication skills,  as well as teaching strategies that will enable them to navigate  difficulties and arrive at workable solutions in order to increase  successful functioning and pleasure in their lives. Annie has worked  extensively with children and adults and has a special interest in  Individual empowerment. She treats depression, anxiety, grief,  trauma and employs creative methods to help patients heal, get unstuck,  move out of ruts, develop new skills as needed, especially when faced  with serious changes in their lives such as divorce, death, illness and  other transitions. She does this with a positive spirit to rebuild and  appreciate her patients’ talents and abilities. Annie has a special  affinity for holocaust survivors and children of holocaust survivors.  She is a firstborn ‘2G’ 2nd generation of holocaust survivor parents so  is intimately acquainted with the issues related to this family  experience. Annie was a Medical Social Worker in New York prior to  becoming a Psychotherapist. She is also a published writer of poems  and essays, as well as original songs which she has performed in local  concerts, community centers, schools, personal growth workshops and  other group settings, including the intensive seminars of Virginia  Satir, Lori Gordon and Sid Simon. Annie Schlachet Garfield, L.C.S.W.,  became a Clinical Associate/Independent Contractor of the Plantation  office of Child and Family Psychologists in 2007.

Tim Scala, Psy.D.

 

Dr.  Timothy Scala received his Doctor of Psychology degree in Clinical  Psychology from Nova Southeastern  University. His experience includes work in a variety of community  mental health, medical, and educational settings in Florida. These  experiences have included individual and group therapy, psychological  assessment, and forensic assessment with children and  adults of all ages. He has treated a wide range of illnesses that have  included mood, anxiety, and conduct disorders, attention/deficit and  learning disabilities, Autism and Asperger’s disorders, developmental  disorders, traumatic stress, substance and sexual  abuse, family issues, relationship difficulties, eating disorders, and  personality disorders. Dr. Scala is a  member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the American  College of Forensic Examiners in which he is a Certified Forensic  Consultant  (CFC). He currently helps children, teens adults, and families in his  office or in-home visits.
 

Dr.  Scala is also an Assistant Professor and Program Director of the  Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreational Therapy in Nova Southeastern  University’s Department of Justice and Human Services. He is also a  Licensed Clinical  Psychologist/Supervisor at the School-related Psychological Assessments  and Clinical Interventions (SPACI) clinic within the College of  Psychology. In addition to teaching within the Department of Justice and Human  Services, Dr. Scala supervises doctoral level psychology students,  interns, and postdoctoral residents within the College of Psychology in  the areas of assessment and intervention. He has conducted research and  was  vital in obtaining grant funding in the areas of adolescent issues,  parent training, and working with United States Veterans.  His work with  victims/survivors of torture and presenting nationally on this topic  has been helpful in providing supportive and therapeutic  services to this population locally and nationwide.

Stephanie Savo, LMHC

Stephanie Savo earned her Master’s Degree in Mental Health counseling from Nova Southeastern University. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with extensive experience working with children, adolescents and families providing individual, group and family therapy. Stephanie’s areas of interest include depression, anxiety, substance abuse, anger management, parent-adolescent dynamics, trauma and mood management.  Her love of substance abuse treatment came as a result of her working with the adolescent substance abuse population. In addition to providing therapeutic services Stephanie is a qualified supervisor providing supervision services to registered mental health interns who are working towards licensure. Stephanie is dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment for individuals and families who are looking for self-empowerment and to strengthen relationships. She works with her clients to identify their personal strengths and find self-inspired solutions to the problems they experience.
